Chris Fagan Takes Leave of Absence After Unacceptable Sweep Before Carlton Tigers Semi-Final
Despite a good showing against the ruck at the afl semi-final, Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has taken a leave of absence. This comes after Mitch Robinson was reported to have had an unacceptable swipe at the Lions star. This incident occurred before the lions clash against the Tigers, which they ultimately lost.
Brisbane Lions coach takes leave from post
Speculation has been rife about the AFL’s handling of allegations of racist behaviour at the Hawthorn Football Club. It’s believed the claims were made by three Indigenous players. The incident, which was not formally investigated by the club, was said to involve staffer Jason Burt. The resulting report outlined the best and worst of Hawthorn’s policies and practices regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander footballers.
The AFL has since announced a club-by-club review of the matter. AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the review would not be published in full. He also said a four-person independent review group would be appointed, led by an eminent King’s Counsel. The group’s findings would be released later this year.
There are a number of serious allegations against senior Hawks officials and their coaching staff. The AFL has been called on to make changes to address a culture of bullying at the club. It is alleged that a pregnant Aboriginal player was pressured into terminating the pregnancy.
Mitch Robinson’s swipe at chris fagan
Carlton’s Mitch Robinson has had an up and down AFL career. He played over 100 games for the Blues and had stints with Brisbane and Adelaide. He starred in the club’s best and fairest in his first season, before he was purged from the fold for his less than stellar conduct. He also served a brief stint with the Suns, who will play their grand final this weekend.
On a more serious note, Robinson had a major contribution to the Lions’ victory over Geelong in the Q-Clash. He kick-started the ruck with a memorable midfield contest and was not short of a goal of his own. He was the most useful player in a team that possessed plenty of talent. He had 30 disposals, four goals and three assists in his maiden AFL game and was a major reason the Lions’ win was a rousing one.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s not surprising that Robinson isn’t a thorn in the side of his coach. He was a standout during Brisbane’s pre-season thumping of the Geelong Tigers and had a stellar start to the season, winning nine of his first 10 games and collecting the most assists in the competition.
Brisbane Lions win afl semi-final
Earlier this week Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan took leave of absence to assist an AFL investigation. The former coach of Hawthorn is being linked to historic racism allegations, alleged to have pressured a couple to abort their pregnancy.
The former AFL player also announced his retirement from the game. He played 247 senior games with Carlton, 129 goals. He was joint best and fairest in 2015, after playing in the first week of the AFL finals. His departure will mark the second time he has been delisted after reaching 100 games. He will retire after the 2023 season.
In Fagan’s third season at Brisbane, the Lions made their breakthrough to the top four. They lost to GWS in straight sets. But their revenge against Richmond came in the qualifying final. This is the first time the Lions have won a game at the MCG since 2014. In fact, they only played a game there in 2020.
